You have to become wildly passionate about your business in order for it to succeed.
When I started Black Fox Creative in 2015, I was forced to think differently, and to really consider my options. I had just had a baby, and really didn't want to go back to work full time, nor did I want to miss watching Olivia's milestones as she grew. We fought a long hard battle to even get her, and I wasn't even considering giving up those treasured moments for a second. So I thought, if not now, when.
After being induced for 5 days, and a long exhausted 17hour labour, she arrived, with this beautiful squishy head, and lots of hair. She was our angel with a cause. She made me remember that there are miracles in every day. That sometime resilience is built within us, regardless of whether we are parents or not.
Not everyone of us will achieve the same goals, or have the same ambitions, but what matters is that you celebrate how far you have come, and challenge yourself for how far you will go. Big picture thinking can bring about positive change.
Make sure you write your visions on the wall darling, and absolutely become obsessed about setting the intention to start, or at least manifest it. What you focus on expands.
You have the power to be powerful. You have the ambition. You have the drive. You deserve this. YOU CAN DO THIS.
When you make a decision, there will always be a consequence, but what if I told you that it could become an opportunity. Switch your thinking for a minute.
If you are considering giving up the 9-5 grind, and wanting to work for yourself, DO IT!!!
You will learn so much about yourself, your strengths, weaknesses, and how strong you really are.
There will be times that you will want to scream, chuck in the towel, and leave it to dust, but then you will convince yourself that you don't want to work to anyone else's terms any more.
Happiness is key, if it makes you happy, do it. If it makes you money, do it, if it doesn't; work smarter not harder.
DO NOT GIVE UP!!! (of course if all shit hits the fan, then use it as a learning experience), BUT DO NOT GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS.
I was instantly gravitated to other markets, especially the Matakana Farmers' Market as we were staying there for a family vacation over Christmas in 2014. This was my biggest market memory as a kid. We went there for a family vacation 20 years ago, and I just thrived on the aspect of finding someone else's treasured items and making them even more loved, or enjoyed haha (delicious food is always a winner in my books!).
It inspired me, that once upon a time ago that if these guys started this market, and it is still going however more years later, that if they can do it, then why can't I.
I started Alfresco Bites (a weekly food truck night market) and Bloom Collective (an artisan makers market) in 2015. I didn't have any immediate relative experience, actually none at all with community events, but more passion than I could fill my boots with. I set the intention, and a fire in my belly grew. It's all about the makers, collaborative people, the community, and the delicious food is an added bonus. Once people understood my vision, and saw it for it's value to our community, it is now sought after by vendors, and very hungry bellies.
Just remember one thing; become wildly passionate about it, and don't do it half-assed! Trust me, learn from my experience, your clients too will notice the difference.
Be inspired by my story, share it, wish for yours, dream about it, write about it, tell it, and most importantly show it off to the world.
